Calligraphy by Kitamura Bakotsu

After his graduation, Bakotsu Kitamura worked for a newspaper company and a publishing house, writing art critiques and editing in the field of music and dance. Meanwhile, Bakotsu published his first book called "To be a designer" ("designer ni naru niwa" ) with the Pelican publishing company. Further writings and essays appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines. "Taneo Ishii, the Swan Lake"( Ishii Taneo, Hakucho no mizuumi) at Tokyo Music and Dance Performance News" (Tokyo, ongaku buyo shinbun), "Performing art buried in the ordinary - found with one modern dance performance" ( Nichijyosei ni maibotsu shita butai geijyutsu - aru modern dance koen wo tegakari ni) at Asahi Journal issued by the Asahi Newspaper,the essay "Despite the smell of colours" (Iro ha Nioedo) at the Ibaraki Jyoyo Newspaper as a 100 serial story. Over the years, Baktosu developed increasingly a disgust towards mass media. This was due to his experience of fraud and personal hardship within this industry. So he decided to change his life and take up new ways of expressing himself. It was when he began follow the art of calligraphy. Ever since that moment, more than 40 years have passed, and the compassion of Bakotsu Kitamura for the characters, the elements placed on a single paper have never vanished. ::: Exhibitions In 1960, Bakotsu held his first individual exhibition at the Tokyo
Ginza Shisensho Gallery. Ever since 1964, Bakotsu Kitamura holds at least one or two solo exhibitons per year in various galleries in Tokyo, Saitama, Ibaraki and Matsuyama. Overall, more than 50 such exhibitions have taken place over the years, attracting both the attention of art professionals and the public.
